Course Description

 

Introduction to general concepts and goals of historic preservation.
Students will explore the many topics relating to preservation's role in American culture, including how to identify historic architectural styles, how to designate and protect historic structures, how to evaluate their economic potential, how to establish historic districts, and how to revitalize older downtowns.

Registration

When registered, you will be given an ID and password to enter WebCaucus, the conference containing all the course materials. To gain access, click on "Caucus Center" (after "Already have a userid?"); then type in both your ID name and password (in all lower case). When in WebCaucus, ask for the "Hist Pres" conference.

Other

This Internet course, Issues of Historic Preservation, will have a parallel course on EMU's campus, GHPR 335, Historic Preservation, which is a traditional classroom undergraduate course. Students in that course will have similar topics and readings, schedule, and assignments. They will have direct contact with students in this Internet course by participating in the same Rivertown simulation. This interactivity of classroom students and Internet students communicating over the Web adds an unusual and exciting perspective to both courses.
