Professionals Advisory Board
Members of the Planning Program's Professionals Advisory Board serve as advisors to program faculty on how to make the program, its curriculum and its activities, more relevant to the profession of planning. The meetings of the Board are always lively, and serve as an important link between the academic and professional communities.

Leslie Kettren AICP (BS 1991) was formerly a member of the national Board of Directors of the American Planning Association and is writing a book on "Walkable Cities."


Andrea Brown AICP (BS 1985, MS 1993) is now serving as Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Planning, the largest statewide planning organization in the country.


Phil McKenna AICP, PCP is President and CEO of McKenna Associates, Inc., the Great Lakes region's largest planning consulting firm.In 2007 he was named Outstanding Professional Planner by the Michigan Association of Planning.


Amy Neary Chesnut AICP (BS 1997) is Senior Principal Planner with McKenna Associates, where she has done extensive work with the Michigan communities of Fenton, Rochester Hills, and Plymouth and Hartland Townships.


Clement Chukwu (BS 1999), one of the recent stars of the EMU track and field team, won a Silver Medal in the 4-man relay races at the Sydney Olympics. He currently is enrolled in the graduate Planning program at EMU.


While an undergrad student, Michelle Aniol (BS 2000) was awarded the distinction of Student of the Year by the American Planning Association's national student organization. Kevin Christiansen AICP (BS 1984, MS 1986) served as president of the Michigan Association of Planning for 2003-2004. He now is Vice President with Victor International Corporation, a real estate firm.


Tom Covert AICP (BS 1996) served as an intern with Atwell-Hicks in Ann Arbor and was hired upon graduation, where he is now Project Director with one of the country's largest engineering/planning corporations.


Andrew Armbruster (BS 2004 Honors) spent one semester studying planning in France and is now studying and working in China.


David Schleg AICP began as planner for Scottville, Michigan. He now is Chief Planner for the City of Dallas, Texas. He worked on the first City Council-supported forwardDallas! Comprehensive Plan.


John Enos AICP (MS 1992) has two degrees from EMU before working as a Planner in Livingston County and as Planning Director for Pittsfield Township. He is now a principal with the firm of Carlisle-Wortman Associates in Ann Arbor. John has been certified as a Tax Assessor, Soil Erosion Control Officer and Professional Emergency Manager. He has also served on the Board of the Michigan Association of Planning and taught classes at EMU.


Steve Magee (MS 1982) began as an intern with the planning department in Monroe, Michigan. He soon became a planner for the City of Coconut Creek, Florida, and then its Director of Community Development and Assistant City Manager. He obtained a law degree from Southern Methodist University with honors. He moved into land development, and currently is Senior Vice President of Land Management with iStar Financial in New York City, where he manages a $5 billion portfolio for a Real Estate Investment Trust.
