Dr. Ojala has won awards for outstanding teaching. In addition
to teaching a full course load at EMU, he regularly gives
guest lectures at other universities, K-12 schools, civic
organizations, and other groups. He operates the EMU-NWS cooperative
weather station on campus. He is a member of the Association
of American Geographers, Michigan Academy of Science, American
Meteorological Society - Southeast Michigan Chapter, Phi Kappa
Phi, and several other professional organizations. His primary
research interests are in severe and unusual weather and climatic
change. He is often consulted by the news media for his expertise
in weather phenomena.
