In addition to the undergraduate Geography degree the Department also offers a program leading to a Master of Science or Master of Arts Degree. The Masters of Science stresses physical geography, geographic information systems and remote sensing, urban and regional planning and other aspects of environmental studies. The Masters of Arts emphasizes cultural geography and geographic education.
The master's program in geography educated individuals in the systematic, regional and technical aspects of the discipline and enables candidates to participate in geographic research and its application to human and environmental needs. The degree is particularly suitable for those graduates with one of the following professional goals: preparation for advanced PhD study, community college teaching, enhancing one's background for K-12 teaching or professional careers in business government or industry.
The course offerings and faculty specializations offer students learning and research opportunities in a range of geographic sub fields, including a general geographic course of study, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) & Remote Sensing, Urban & Regional Planning and Geographic Education.
As a geographer, you are qualified for jobs in teaching, industry, agriculture, urban planning and conservation. You may be hired by government agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the U. S. Parks Department, the Army Corps of Engineers, and private engineering firms to work in varied and interesting positions such as:
