Regional Geography of US/Canada
Professor: Chris Mayda

Course Objectives
If one thing can be said about the USA and Canada, it is that things are changing faster than anywhere else on Earth. New technologies, cultural diversity and a changing visible landscape are but a few reasons this area is so dynamic and in need of understanding. It is necessary to understand our own attitudes in order to understand how we impact the rest of the world.

With this in mind this course is offered to help understand, appreciate and enjoy the regions of the United States and Canada.

To do this the following objectives need be met to pass this class:

  • Be able to define the concept of region
  • Be able to map the various regions of the United States and Canada
  • Understand the concept of site and situation in relation to human settlement, especially cities
  • Understand the economic, political and social processes in relation to physiography
  • Understand how regions are identified and how they compare and contrast with the region as a whole
Course Requirements
Because this course uses PowerPoint presentations, class attendance is critical for a full understanding of the course material and for an appreciation of the various regional landscapes.

Your final grade will consist of three parts:
