Geography The Master's degree in geography requires satisfactory completion of a minimum of 35 credit hours. After 12 hours of graduate work in geography, the student must formally declare either the general degree program or one of the concentrations. The selection or change of a program requires approval by the graduate coordinator. Up to 12 transfer units can be accepted from an accredited graduate program. The minimum acceptable grade for a graduate class is B-. Graduate advising requirement: it is highly recommend to see the advisor once a semester or contact by phone or email. Students are allowed 6 hours of cognates from related departments. They are allowed 9 hours of specified 400 level courses in the Dept. Students are given the option of a thesis for 6 credit hours (Geog 690-1-2 ) or take Geog 687 (4 hours) (internship) or 688 (5 credits), or 689 (6 credit) or hours required on professional experience AND Geog 674 (professional report for publication) Oral exam covering the courses taken by the grad student as part of grad program and a basic knowledge of undergrad geog.

Students are expected to develop a broad background in the discipline of geography; in-depth knowledge in an area of emphasis; and the ability to conduct and report independent research, including the use of appropriate geographic techniques. |
