The Direct Action and Research Training (DART) Center is currently accepting resumes from alums and spring graduating EMU students interested in social and economic justice issues for their paid, four-month community organizing training program known as the DART Organizers Institute. The DART Center has built non-partisan community organizations throughout the country that have won important improvements on a broad set of issues affecting low-moderate income people including: Education reform in low-performing public schools; Job Training; Drugs and Violence; Affordable Housing; Criminal Recidivism; Neighborhood Revitalization, etc.
The DART Organizers Institute starts July 18, 2010 and combines a 7-day classroom with 15-week field training. This is a paid training program designed to promote successful graduates into permanent salaried positions making up to $35,000/year in starting salaries, plus benefits. Graduates from the DART Organizers Institute have gone onto accept Executive Director and Associate Community Organizing positions throughout the country. Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency is a growing non-profit organization, in search of a Development Manager for their Wyandotte office. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in obtaining and/or managing government, corporate, and foundation grants for a human services, community development, or related nonprofit organization. The position requires the ability to produce a high volume of work, think strategically, conduct research, develop programs and logic models, and manage multiple deadlines. Successful candidates will also be extremely attentive to detail and be comfortable with a heavy work load. Bachelor's degree with two or more years of experience in non-profit environment, or a combination of education and experience which is similarly equivalent. Master’s preferred. Ability to collect and evaluate data regarding service needs, present services and service gaps, and through such an evaluation, develop needs statements to both direct and support agency services. The City of Ironwood is seeking a Community Development Director. The area is a destination for outdoor enthusiasts who like to hike, bike, kayak, ski (cross country and downhill), fish, hunt, snowmobile, ATV, and enjoy outdoor recreation. The community is located fifteen miles from Lake Superior and is home to numerous streams, rivers, and waterfalls.
The position is responsible for managing community development, planning, development and redevelopment, housing rehabilitation, grant administration, zoning review along with the promotion of private sector development.

The City of Plymouth’s Downtown Development Authority is hiring an
unpaid, part-time, temporary intern to assist with various projects
related to the City’s Downtown. The Downtown Development Authority
works with local merchants, the Chamber of Commerce, the City
Government and other various parties for the improvement of Downtown
Plymouth through infrastructure improvements, marketing, new business
recruitment and business retention.
REQUIREMENTS
DDA interns will be actively enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a
university urban planning,
public administration, or other related program.
A demonstrated interest in urban planning, zoning, local government,
economic development and the City of Plymouth.
This is an unpaid position with no additional benefits. Applicants
should be available for a
minimum of 16-20 hours per week
The individual must demonstrate the ability to undertake basic
assignments, and posses an understanding of basic customer service
skills, an ability to interact professionally with
merchants, staff and vendors, and display good judgment.
A working knowledge of computers, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel,
and Internet.
