Eastern Michigan University is pleased to announce the continuation of the eFellows program for academic year 2008-2009. This program is provided for tenure/tenure-track faculty and full-time lecturers through the collaboration between the Bruce K. Nelson Faculty Development Center, Faculty Council and the Division of IT. Funding capabilities are made possible through the Information Technology fee. The eFellows program was established to support faculty and lecturers in obtaining the resources needed to successfully integrate technology that enhances student-focused instruction in courses and curriculum. The overall outcome of this program is to improve and enhance student learning and the scholarship of teaching through the integration of appropriate technology.

How to Apply to the Program

Deadline for Winter Proposals: January 12, 2008

All proposals MUST be received by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2009. Proposals must be complete and contain all required components. NO late submissions will be accepted. Expenses for all funded proposals in 2008-2009 MUST be encumbered and receipts submitted no later than May 30, 2009.

Any expenses and receipts submitted after May 30, 2009 will not be accepted by the eFellows program for funding and will be the responsibility of the proposal recipient and the respective Department Head/School Director.

Proposals are to be submitted for up to, but not exceeding, $2500.

Only one (1) proposal may be submitted by an individual faculty or lecturer during academic year 2008-2009.

Proposals MUST include a letter of support signed by the faculty member’s Department Head/School Director that indicates support of the proposal and the willingness to receive into the Department / School any equipment purchased through the award. (All equipment purchased with eFellows funds are assigned to the proposal recipient and are the property of Eastern Michigan University).

One (1) hard copy of the full proposal must be either hand delivered or sent through campus mail or U.S. mail to Faculty Development Center, 109 Halle Library. NO faxed proposals will be accepted. Please do not send proposals with a signature required to accept delivery.

Program Outcomes for 2008-2009

The eFellows program supports and provides resources for faculty to integrate technology into their teaching. This year's priority outcomes for funding will be given to proposals that focus on:

Projects that involve faculty-to-faculty collaborations to integrate technology into teaching, learning, or research. Maximum of three collaborators per proposal; $2,500 per person not to exceed $7,500 for the entire project;
Projects that involve collaborations and partnerships between faculty and students to integrate technology into learning or research (not to exceed a total of $2500 for the entire collaboration);
Projects that redesign face-to-face formatted courses into either hybrid/blended formatted courses or fully online courses;
Projects that involve integration of technology into the learning outcomes of a course that has been vetted into the General Education curriculum.

Additional funding may be awarded to proposals with outcomes that focus on:

Projects that support collaborations between faculty that utilize instructional technology across disciplines, or departments and schools;
Projects that enable faculty to integrate instructional
software or hardware into courses or curriculum;
Projects that allow faculty to obtain services, consultation and training from individuals with expertise in an designated area of instructional technology (e.g., conference attendance, reimbursement for non-EMU employed consultants).

The maximum award for Blackboard Vista-based or eCompanion-based course development is $500.

Individuals requesting focused expertise awards that utilize established campus resource experts will receive funding in the form of an honorarium not to exceed $500 which will be awarded at the time of project completion.
