E-MELD (Electronic Metastructure for Endangered Languages Data) A five-year National Science Foundation grant in the amount of $2.2 milion awarded to Dr. Helen Aristar-Dry, in collaboration with four other institutions. The E-MELD project has a dual objective: (1) to aid in the preservation of endangered languages data and documentation, and (2) to aid in the development of the infrastructure necessary for effective collaboration among electronic archives. |

The ALL Language Project (BCS-0333530) This is a collaborative initiative to create an NSDL site to provide basic reference information on over 4000 languages. The LINGUIST portion of the ALL project involves extending the Directory of Linguists; to date, over 3700 linguists have been added to the database, along with information on their language specialties, bringing the total number of listings in the Directory to 10,559. |

DATA: Dena'ina Archiving, Training, and Access (OPP-0326805) A project to digitize legacy material on the Dena'ina language in the Alaska Native Language Center and to institute a small student exchange program focused on the use of digital technologies in documentary linguistics. To date on the DATA project, a metadata database with web interfaces has been created, 75 Dena’ina texts have been scanned and catalogued, 10 other Dena'ina texts have been time-aligned with digital audio, and an interactive website has been designed for the Dena’ina community. Dr. Helen Aristar-Dry and Dr. Verónica Grondona are co-PIs on the DATA project, with Dr. Gary Holton, from the U. of Alaska Fairbanks. |

Documentation and Description of Chorote, Chulupí, and Wichí, three endangered languages of the Southern Chaco. (Funded by the Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project) A project to document Chorote, Nivaclé (a.k.a. Chulupí), and Kadiwéu, three poorly known endangered languages of the Southern Chaco (South America). The immediate goal is adequate description of these languages and the development of language materials for the indigenous communities. The longer-term goal is to document and describe the languages of the Southern Chaco region and to investigate them typologically and historically. Dr. Verónica Grondona is the principal researcher. (With Dr. Lyle Campbell, U. of Utah, and Dr. Filomena Sandalo, UNICAMP, Brazil.) |

Return to Ucuchi: 15 Years Later. (Funded by the Department of Education A 3-year Language Technology and Language Documentation project to develop multimedia learning, teaching and research tools for Bolivian Quechua. The principal investigator for this project is Dr. Edward Garrett. |
