Undergraduate Program in Linguistics

A degree in linguistics prepares you for graduate study in a number of fields. First and foremost, of course, is Linguistics. In fact, many students with an undergraduate or M.A. degree from our program are now at leading Ph.D programs in Linguistics, including the University of Maryland, Columbia University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Michigan, the University of Massachusetts and the University of Arizona. A degree in Linguistics is also useful in preparing for a career in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), Speech Pathology, Anthropology, Computer Science (particularly Artificial Intelligence research), Translation, and Editing.

Linguistics is interdisciplinary in nature, so a degree in Linguistics integrates very well with other disciplines such as Anthropology, Sociology, Literature, Language Teaching and Education, Speech Therapy, Computer Science, Psychology, Philosophy and History among others.

The Linguistics Program at Eastern Michigan University offers an English Linguistics Major and Minor, and an English Language Major and Minor.
