Collections
Part of the LOEX original mission was to collect all formats of materials related to library instruction.
Over the years, brochures, handouts, pathfinders, videos, audiotape recordings, tutorials and other materials
where collected and librarians at member institutions actively borrowed these items. With the explosion of the Internet
as the source for updateable instruction materials, donations to the LOEX print and media collections dwindled.
A decision was made in 2002-2003 to close this collection and seek grant funding to convert the materials into an accessible historical
archive of library instruction resources as well as to preserve the history of the clearinghouse.
Librarians at member institutions may still access the print/media collection, but LOEX will now concentrate its efforts on providing links on its Web site to exemplary library instruction resources available via the Internet. LOEX will continue to maintain a listing of videotapes in its historical collection as an example of the work done in library instruction from the 1970s through the mid-1990s.
