For those colleagues interested on what is going on in other countries with regard to Information Literacy programs, we would like to inform you that we have just held the 4th Meeting on User Information Skills, sponsored by Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico. We had as keynote speakers Patricia S. Breivik, dean of San Jose University Library and Chairman of the National Forum on Information Literacy, as well as Sylvie Chevillote, from the French National LIS School. Online Northwest, a one-day conference focusing on the use of technology in libraries, will be held at CH2M Hill Alumni Center on the Oregon State University campus, Corvallis , Oregon on January 21, 2005. Call for papers: WILU 2005
The 34th Annual Workshop on Instruction in Library Use will be held in Guelph, Ontario, May 18 - 20, 2005. A kaleidoscope of possibilities is our theme.  This year's program will challenge participants to reflect on the placement of information literacy in the broader context of other forms of literacy, including visual, media, statistical, and computer literacy. WILU 2005 will pose the question:  What role do libraries and librarians play in addressing, promoting, and collaborating with partners to advance these forms of literacy? ACRL News
New
The Association of College and Research Libraries' (ACRL) Institute for Information Literacy (IIIL) seeks applicants for its national Immersion Program to be held at Eckerd College, July 29 - August 3, 2005. Immersion '05 will be four-and-one-half days of intensive training and education for academic librarians. A faculty of nationally recognized librarians will be teaching this prestigious program. ACRL/NY will be holding its 24th Annual symposium on December 3, 2004 from 8:30am to 4:30pm at Baruch College of the City University of New York. The Symposium title is Scholarly Communication: Evolution or Revolution? Over the last half-century, pressures from a variety of sources have resulted in a radical transformation in the way research has been published and disseminated. The ensuing dilemma affecting the entire process of scholarly communication is the theme of this year's ACRL/NY Symposium. New
Applications are now available for the AASL 2005 awards, grants and scholarship program, totaling over $54,000. Winners will be announced during the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, Ill., June 23-29, 2005. The deadline to apply for the 2005 National School Library Media Program of the Year Award is January 3, 2005. The deadline to apply for other AASL 2005 awards and grants is February 1, 2005. The application deadline for the School Librarian's Workshop Scholarship is March 1, 2005.

The ACRL WA chapter is sponsoring a pre-conference at the Washington Library Association conference in Spokane on April 20, 2005 . The program will feature librarians and practitioners/professors to address issues of teaching and communicating with diverse populations, namely adult students/patrons, Gen Y students/patrons, and ESL students/patrons. We are still looking for speakers for the Gen Y piece. Call for Internet resource/Web site Reviewers: Public Services Quarterly
PSQ, a peer-reviewed journal from Haworth Press, is looking for Internet resource/Web site reviewers. We're looking for reviewers interested in reviewing Internet resources beginning in early 2005. Reviewers should have experience in public services work in an academic library. Good writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to keep to deadlines are essential. Call for papers: Public Services Quarterly
PSQ's goal is to keep academic librarians in a variety of public service roles up to date with developments in the field. The journal covers the areas of reference and research assistance, information literacy and instruction, and access and delivery services. Combining research findings and case studies with authoritative articles, the journal tracks the changing patterns in organizational and managerial structures to present new initiatives for expanding and improving library services. Each issue will include a number of columns filled with practical ideas and important resources. The Emerging Technologies in Instruction Committee of the ACRL Instruction Section invites you to submit your online information literacy tutorial, virtual tour, or other online library instruction project for review and possible inclusion in PRIMO: Peer-Reviewed Instructional Materials Online. PRIMO is the new name for the Internet Education Project. This name emphasizes both the peer-reviewed nature of the project and the first-rate instruction models found in the project database. It also reflects how the project has evolved from teaching about the Internet, to teaching using the Internet as a medium. The Community and Junior College Library Section of ACRL (CJCLS) is looking for authors. Publications can range from a how-to manual to the results of a research project to a survey or a full-fledged book. There are no deadlines for the Research and Publications Committee to accept applications, but we would like to review a few in January at the ALA Midwinter conference in Boston. Questions?
