These links require either a browser with a built in e-mail client, or a browser and e-mail client that you've configured to work together.
They also need this software to be configured properly for your e-mail account.
If nothing happens when you follow an email link, you're probably not using a browser capable of doing e-mail, or your e-mail client and your browser aren't communicating properly.
If you get an error message from your browser, it's probably trying to tell you that you need to configure it for your e-mail account. Once it's configured, you should have no problem.
I would not reccommend configuring any computer used by anyone you don't know or don't trust. This includes computers in the labs or the library, and those at work. Unless you're very careful, it's easy to leave your password and e-mail messages on the hard drive.
