THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN EXPLAINED BY POLITICAL SCIENCE EXPERTS

THE DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE PRESENTS A SPECIAL SECTION OF PLSC 112 (AMERICAN GOVERNMENT) DEDICATED ENTIRELY TO THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN AND ITS AFTERMATH.

This specially designated PLSC 112 section showcases ten of our department faculty discussing various aspects of the election; a different faculty member each week. There will also be Special Events including: movies, mock debates, and an election watch party.

Lectures are open to the public, and non PLSC 112 students are encouraged to attend these classes that carry Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC) credit.

Come and learn about the most historical Presidential Election of the Twenty-First Century and discuss hot issues such as:

  • The carefully crafted media images of McCain and Obama
  • Red States and Blue States: Will the South hold for McCain?
  • Michigan’s impact on the Presidential Congressional Elections
  • The imperial presidency and imperial foreign policy
  • Wars and the Middle East

    Special class dates:
    10/20 The EMU Student Democrats vs. the Republicans- Debate. Class meets in the Student Center Auditorium - Open to the public
    10/27 PLS Faculty: Mock Presidential Debate. Class meets in the Student Center Auditorium - open to the public

    08-11-2008 The Department of Political Science is hosting the Michigan Conference of Political Scientists on October 16-17, 2008 at the Student Center.

    The Conference is an annual event where academics and practitioners meet to discuss various aspects of Michigan's political life, structure and processes through research presentations, panels and roundtable discussions.

    All students and faculty are invited to attend and encouraged to submit papers for presentation. The call for papers, the tentative schedule and the registration form can be found at the following links.

    The deadline for paper submission is September 15 and for registration is October 1, 2008.

    03-25-2008 NEW MAJOR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
