Crime Prevention
In 1987 Eastern Michigan University Police Department assigned
a Crime Prevention Officer dedicated to educating the campus
community on crime prevention and awareness. Since this undertaking,
over 1200 crime awareness seminars have been conducted. These
seminars are held at various on-campus locations throughout the
year and are open to the campus community free of charge. The
seminars cover a variety of topics and are available by contacting
Officer Candace Dorsey, Crime Prevention Coordinator at (734)
487-0987 or you can stop by and visit her in her office on the
ground floor of Pittman Hall.

Crime Stoppers Of Michigan Rewards up to $1,000

Eastern Michigan University Police Department participates
with Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line. Crime Stoppers
is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that
works with area police departments using a 1-800-speak-up
tip line. Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to
$1,000.00 for information that results in arrests
and/or convictions of criminals. Currently thirty
police departments use this Crime Stoppers affiliation.
When a phone tip is received, the civilian operator
fills our a form that includes all of the pertinent
information about the crime. The caller is then assigned
a secret identification number and asked to call
back within 48 hours. The information is then faxed
immediately to the law enforcement coordinator who
has jurisdiction on the crime. If you know information
about a crime and you would like to anonymously leave
a tip call 1-800-speak-up.
Crime Stoppers paid an anonymous person $200 for
a tip on narcotic trafficking in the residence halls
which resulted in an arrest.
Crime Stoppers paid an anonymous person $900 for
a tip on the where-a bouts of a baby grand piano
stolen from the University. That tip resulted in
the recovery of the piano and arrests of the suspects.
