Paying for College & Financial Aid FAQ

A lot of people think college is expensive. While it does cost more than it did a decade or two ago, most EMU students find that their education at EMU is an excellent value: a top-quality investment that is surprisingly affordable.

Best of all, at EMU we will help you find a way to finance your education. We provide services to help you navigate the financial aid picture, we work with your employer if they offer employee tuition benefits, and work with you to ensure that you may obtain whatever scholarships, grants and loans you are qualified to receive.

What you need to know:

  1. The first step in applying for financial aid is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This federal aid application is available as a paper application or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Either application method is welcome but the online application is faster. If you need help, please call 1.800.433.3243 for expert advice.
  2. Once EMU receives the results from your FAFSA, you will be considered for grant programs and student loans. We will contact you by mail to tell you the results.
  3. If you have employee tuition benefits through your employer, we will work with you, and EMU's Student Business Services (Student Accounting Office) to meet your employer's requirements for payment.
  4. Still have questions or concerns? Email an EMU Financial Aid staff person at financial_aid@emich.edu for a personalized response. We look forward to hearing from you.
