ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

2004 Recipients

Kate Brindle, graduate recipient, is a student participant in the search committee for the new coordinator of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center at Eastern Michigan University. She is an intern with the Washtenaw Rainbow Action Project in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ms. Brindle is also a graduate assistant with Project YES Players, a theatre troupe that works to eliminate homophobia and heterosexism in Michigan's youth-specific social service agencies through performance. Kate Brindle co-wrote and successfully acquired a youth initiative grant from the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan to support the Expanding Activism in Our Community Youth Leadership Conference, held at EMU on May 14, 2004. Ms. Brindle completes her MLS degree in Women's Studies in Spring 2005.

Kevin (Skye) Werner, undergraduate recipient, is a transgender activist who regularly volunteers at the EMU Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center. He participates in Project Outreach, a grant project by the EMU College of Education to educate high school students in Southeast Michigan and to gather data about their attitudes and knowledge of LGBT issues. Kevin (Skye) Werner is an actor and writer for Project Yes Players, EMU's queer theater group that performed at Out Fest in Ann Arbor in 2003. He is a volunteer at Affirmations Lesbian Gay Community Center in Detroit and participates in the Speaker's Bureau of the Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Affairs at the University of Michigan, which also provides speakers' panels at Eastern Michigan University University.
