Cherie Bryant
|
Cherie Bryant is a Graduate Assistant
for the university Diversity Programs office. Her supervisor
writes, " Ms. Bryant is never more excited than when she is
advocating for diversity issues, especially lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender cause. Rest assured that behind
that pleasant smile and pleasant demeanor is a fighter for
all social justice." Following reorganization in that office,
Cherie has worked exclusive with the LBT Resource Center. She
has helped to organize LBGTRC programs, including Transgender
Day of Remembrance, Social Justice 101; An LGBT Discussion
Series Event, Religion, Faith and Activism: An LGBT
Discussion Series Event, Exploring Roles and Stereotypes in
the Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community
(Women’s History Month Event), The Matrix: Sexism,
Homophobia and Transphobia: An LGBT Discussion Series Event/.
Ms. Bryant also was selected to represent EMU at the National
Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s 18th Annual National
Conferen |

Rachel Girard takes every opportunity to
education her fellow students about bisexuality. One of her
professors writes that Rachel "has also served as a role
model for those same students, some of whom seemed to hold
stereotypes and myths about those who identify as bisexual."
She was the president of QUEST in 2005-06: a student
organization devoted to advocacy and education on LGBT
students issues. Rachel worked as a student staff member in
the office of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender
Resource Center. She participates in the LGBT Speaker’s
Bureau at The University of Michigan, and has served on the
campus panel "Coming Out to a Safe and Inclusive Campus"
during Out Week celebrations. Rachel writes, "Of all the
things that I have done to help improve the LGBT community,
the most important to me is keeping the community we have
visible to everyone." |

LaDawn Walton is very active in the
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender campus community. She
was a panelist on the "Coming Out to a Safe and Inclusive
Campus" session for the 2005 Out Week celebration on campus.
She served as a panelist on "Beyond Gender: Exploring Roles
and Stereotypes in the LGBT Community" for Women’s
History Month. She has also served as a panelist on
"Intersections: Race and Sexuality" devoted to exploring
intersections of race, sexual orientation and gender
identity/expression in the LGBT community. LaDawn assists
organizational events such as OZONE House in Ann Arbor,
Ruth’s House in Detroit, and COLAGE (Children of
Lesbians and Gays Everywhere. She writes that she aspires to
"put out the stench of the fire that is fear, to remove the
ashes of the blaze that hate crimes have caused and begin to
educate communities one by one through speaking on panels."
