Graduate Programs
Mission Statement
The Hotel & Restaurant Management Program is committed to providing a comprehensive program that focuses on integrating practical work experience with theoretical knowledge, and management strategies needed to succeed in management roles or as entrepreneurs in the Hotel and Restaurant Industry. This is accomplished by anticipating and addressing the educational needs of the Hotel and Restaurant Industry in southeastern Michigan and throughout the State of Michigan.
Students benefit from a high degree of interaction with faculty who have extensive hospitality industry experience; they are advised individually according to their educational goals. Students take a blend of hotel and restaurant management and related cognate courses that meet their career goals. The master's degree and graduate certificate programs provide both flexibility and opportunity for a student to focus on a career in foodservice management, hotel management, entrepreneurship, education and research, while gaining theoretical and operational hospitality knowledge. The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that from 2005 to 2015 there will be approximately 45,000 additional management positions in the hotel and restaurant management industry.
