Scholarships Information

Several HRM program and other scholarships are awarded annually. Students are also encouraged to apply for annual scholarships awarded by Industry Associations including the Michigan Restaurant Association and the International Food Service Executives Association. In addition there are also a number of University scholarships for which HRM students may apply for. A variety of scholarships are available based on academic performance and/or professional promise and/or work experience.

Frances Sanderson Endowed Scholarship:,

Awarded to junior/seniors majoring in ATM, HRM, or IDE, Demonstrated leadership, community service, personal motivation, commitment, and financial need.

Wade McCree Blue Care Network:,

Graduate of Detroit Public Schools with H.S. GPA of 3.00 and EMU GPA of at least 2.5.

Jay Seaver:,

Junior or Senior, preference to Minority Students, Academic record.

Coca Cola Endowed Scholarship:,

HRM major with a minimum of 56 credits having finished their first HRM cooperative study and are in good academic standing.

Polly and Jim Buchanan Scholarship:,

HRM major (minimum of 25 credits), including graduate students with a minimum 2.3 GPA and demonstrates an interest in hospitality industry.

A & W Restaurants Wade McCree Endowed Scholarship:,

HRM student employed in University Food Service. Minimum 2.5 GPA.

Verna Ward Scholarship:,

HRM graduate or undergraduate student, preference given to community college graduates that transferred to EMU, academic record, and professional promise.

Nationally Competitive AHLA Scholarships

• Arthur Packard Memorial Scholarship Competition:,
  National competition, minimum of 3.0 GPA. $5,000, $2,000, $1,000. Separate application form.
• Hyatt Hotels Fund for Minority Lodging Management:,
  National competition (18 nationally awarded) $2,000.
  Separate application form.
• American Express Scholarship Program:,
  Must be working in a lodging property min. 20/hrs/week and 3.00 GPA min. Separate application form.
• Ecolab Scholarship Program:,
  National competition, full time student, min 3.0 GPA, $2,000 Separate application form.

National Restaurant Association – Educational Foundation:,

Must be an HRM major and have at least one semester in a restaurant or foodservice related program. Go to www.nraef.org/scholarships.

Kent County Lodging Association:,

Must have 3.0 GPA, 500 hours work experience, HRM major. Go to www.kentcountylodging.org.

Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA):,
