Social Justice

The purpose of the Social Justice Committee is to facilitate and improve student participation and knowledge of external issues and public affairs that affect the Student Body. It shall manage and implement strategic initiatives of Student Government that serve to improve the welfare and condition of the University and the Student Body, as well as actively express the sentiments of the Student body of Eastern Michigan University to the appropriate entities.

The Social Justice Committee will be sponsoring, creating, and hosting programs and initiatives that encourage and nurture political thought, conversation, and action, focusing particularly on cultivating civic engagement.
The Social Justice Committee will advocate for higher education, students, and EMU interests on the state and federal levels.
Social Justice Committee will be working with the Political Science Department, the EMU caucus, the Students Association of Michigan, the Office of Governmental Relations, and student orgs interested in hosting political events.

Committee Goals:

  • Proactive action towards meeting the requests of the Student Voter Act.
  • The Dream Act.
  • Intro to American Government added to mandatory general education requirements.
  • Advocacy statewide budget cuts to higher education.

All Meetings will be held in or near SC 343 at 6:00 p.m unless otherwise posted.
