Pledge Policy

Section 1- Pledge Requirements

A) The pledge class must participate in one pledge fellowship and one pledge service project. Both events must be planned and run by the pledge class, with all pledges in attendance.

B) No unexcused absences form pledge meetings.

C) Attendance of at least five chapter meetings.

D) Attendance of at least one E-Board meeting.

E) Participation in four committee meetings.

F) Must complete 20 hours of service by the date of activation.

H) Interviews with 75% of the active members in the chapter.

I) Interviews with 100% of the pledge class.

J) Pledge must be in good standing with Eastern Michigan University.

K) Payment of all dues. Amount according to chapter by-laws.

L) Participation in mid-semester review of progress.

M) Must pass each pledge test with 75% or better.


Section 2- Pledge Responsibilities


A) If pledge will be absent from a pledge meeting they must call the pledge educator and provide a written letter explaining their absence.

B) Pledge must call the pledge educator if they will be absent from the pledge service project. They must also provide a written letter explaining their absence. This letter must be approved by a majority at E-Board. Then the pledge must complete Section 3 part A.

C) Pledge must call the pledge educator if they will be absent from the pledge fellowhship project. They must also provide a written letter explaining their absence. This letter must be approved by majority of E-Board. Then the pledge must complete Sectoin 3 part B.

D) If the pledge cannot attend an E-Board meeting they must talk to the pledge educator for an alternative requirement. This requirement will be at the discretion of the pledge educator.

E) If the pledge does not pass a test with 75% or better they must complete a pledge worksheet from the Pledge Educator Leadership Series. One page of the worksheet will make up for one pledge test.


Section 3- Consequences for Incomplete Pledge Requirements

A) If pledge does not attend the pledge service project- Pledge has the choice of co-chairing a service project with the Vice President of Service or must complete an additional three hours of service by activation.

B) If the pledge does not attend the pledge fellowship project- Pledge has the choice of co-chairing a fellowship project with the Vice President of Fellowship or must complete three hours of fellowship by activation.

C) If the pledge does not attend five chapter meetings the pledge must repledge according to chapter by-laws.

D) If the pledge does not complete the four committee meetings they must repledge according to the chapter by-laws.

E) If the pledge does not complete the 20 hours of service by activation tehy must repledge according to chapter by-laws.

F) If the pledge does not complete the two office hours an alternate requirement may be assigned at the discretion of the pledge educator.

G) If the pledge does not complete the interviews with actives and pledges by activation they must repledge according to the chapter by-laws.

Please keep in mind that these requirements look a lot more daunting than they really are; you will have an entire semester to fulfill these requirements, and a big brother to support you, along with the rest of the chapter. All in the chapter want to see you succeed and become an active member, and each member will do his/her best to give you any help you need.
