DAVID RAY VANCE
LINES FOUND ON A CORNEA

Theory of the Opthalmoscope

As ordinarily seen, the pupil appears black
because light which leaves it is necessarily
reflected back the way it came. If eye espied
so as to intercept returning rays, interior
will be illuminated.

In children of dark complexion, the fundus
not infrequently presents a bright lustre
which changes with movements of the mirror.
Most marked along blood-vessels, resembles
shimmer of watered silk.

Experience is necessary to avoid judging
common variations pathological.
