Once upon a time, there were three lonely Hmong students at Eastern Michigan University. Year after year,
they sought anxiously to find students on campus to be their friends. They found them one by one until
finally, in 2004, they had a HU-HMONG-OUS group of friends. FIVE. "Amazing!" they all thought! " we've
finally reached the minimum number of students to form an organization that campus will recognize as legit!"
(dramatization added)...And so, the Hmong American Student Association was formed!
HASA, as we like to be called, is a student-run organization that is open to everyone and formed for many
purposes. Some may say that it was to cook --and eat!--eggrolls, "oven chicken", mini-cheesecakes, and
other numerous, delicious goodies.
However that made us not very happy about our weight gain but...yeah.
HASA is really a organization that seeks to:
- promote the awareness and appreciation of the Hmong culture
- promote higher education
- serve as a bridge between students, community leaders, scholars, the Hmong community, and the
American community
- support and encourage students in academic, personal, and cultural endeavors
- provide leadership opportunities, and
- serve as a channel to develop, display, and recognize the talents and creativity of students.
Check out the Events Page for information on how we fulfill our purposes!
