30 January
Two eagerly awaited events are approaching. The one
year anniversary edition of the Journal of PLACE is set to
debut
in mid-February.
Also in February PLACE will
host its conference entitled
International
Planning Awareness Day. Media on places from all
over the world will give you a glimpse into cities and
planning
principles much different than those we are used to. It is an exciting
chance to gain insight into planning in different countries
and we are
excited to share this with you.
17 January
After a brief
hiatus PLACE is back for an exciting
Winter
semester. We
have a lot of activities planned,
and we hope that you can enjoy
them with us. Visit
the homepage often, as there will
be multiple updates
weekly so that you can keep
up-to-date with the current
events and news. Updated
sections of the site are clearly
delineated for you. For your
convenience, however, newly
updated sections are listed below:
17 January
Andr¨¦ Stone, Vice
President of PLACE, has graduated
and moved to Grand Rapids. He will be missed.
Consequently we
are searching for a new VP. We are
looking for a person that would be
committed to PLACE
and its activities, and motivated
throughout the semester.
The rewards would
include distinction among your peers and
recognition by the countless firms and
local governments that
rre familiar with and support PLACE and its activities.

World Town Planning Day 2004: One of the
greatest successes in the
history of our organization. Thanks goes out to the PLACE executive
board,
Daniel Kennelly and Liz Jellema of the University of Michigan¡¯s UPSA, as
well as UPSA¡¯s
entire executive board. We want to
extend a special thank you
to our distinguished panel:
Keith Edwards, chief administrator for the Charter
Township of Grand
Blanc; Rodney Nanney, a planner with McKenna
Associates,
Inc.; and
Michael Scholl, of Juergensen & Associates.
We had a turnout
of over 70 people, including around ten students from Michigan
State University.
