Car maintenance - Inspection

Every Month

Check air pressure in your tires at least once a month - low tire pressure cuts gas mileage and affects performance. Tires should also be inspected for uneven wear, bulges or cuts on the side wall.

Every 3 Months

Change the oil and oil filter every three months or every 3000 miles: Oil lubricates and cools the engine. When it becomes dirty, it's doing the job. Look into your car manual and follow the recommended schedule.

Every Year

1.  Check brakes - the front brakes worn out more quickly than the rear ones. Many repair shops do a free   brake inspection.
2.  Replace the air and fuel filters at least once a year - air filters keep the dirt away from the engine and keep it clean. Fuel filters prevent the fuel injection equipment from getting clogged. Fuel filters also stop water that may build up in the fuel injection system.
3.  Rotate your tires at least once a year or after every 12000 miles to prevent these from quicker wear and tear.
4.  Replace your wiper blades - do it before it rain/snow season.
5.  Check the exhaust system - for leaks. This should be more frequent on old cars. Many repair shops do an exhaust system inspection free of cost.

Other Inspections

1.  Replace spark plugs every 30000 miles.
2.  Check the battery on a regular basis.
3.  Replace radiator and heater hoses every two years.
4.  Check the engine cooling system every two years.
5.  Check the vehicle lights regularly.
6.  Check the clutch every 60000 - 100000 miles.
7.  Three major parts of an air-conditioner that could go bad.
