Welfare Rights at EMU is a nationally recognized welfare rights union on the campus
of Eastern Michigan University. We strive to provide information and advocacy services
to low-income students and individuals on campus and in the community. More than 40%
of students at Eastern receive some sort of need-based financial aid. If you are one
of these students, you could be eligible for benefits and assistance. For instance, if
you receive a Federal Work Study grant, you are automatically eligible to receive a
Bridge Card (food stamps).
A college education is one of the few legal routes to financial independence. However,
if you are struggling with the day-to-day costs of living, obtaining a college degree
can be an almost impossible task. If you are struggling, please come in to our office
to look through our "Low Cost, No Cost Survival Guide." And please, feel free to look
through the links and resources we have compiled on this page.
If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.
