Our History Our student station has a very rich background beginning in the 1960s. In recent years, our tiny station has experienced an outstanding transformation!!! Before the Fall 2008 semester, Eagle Radio, formerly WQBR(AM), was located in the Quirk Theatre building across campus. The signal was very weak and could only reach bout 10 feet outside the building. But now, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our professors, other faculty members and library staff here at Eastern, we were able to create a new home in the basement of Halle Library. The Fall 2008 students voted on a new name for the station, and the result-- EAGLE RADIO! Shortly after that, we streaming our shows live across the World Wide Web!!! Since then, we've been working hard to spread the word and reaching out to the public about our program. Our goal is to present a creative, diverse, and entertaining student radio station, not only for Eastern Michigan students and staff, but for anyone and everyone across the globe!
The radio lab classes are CTAA 169, 269, and 369-instructed by Professor Hanson and Professor Megan Gore,
and introduces students to the principles of running a weekly radio show. We also participate
in group work to help out the station, such as writing public service announcements and
contacting labels for new music. The class is open to majors AND non-majors.
The student organization is a group of current and alumnus students who have taken the radio lab and
who further work to grow the station. Activities include running shows, promoting the station,
participating in group discussions, and ensuring consistency between semesters.
We now broadcast from our new studio in basement of Halle Library, between the computer lab and the Paradox Cafe.
Formerly we broadcasted from the historic Quirk Building. Our signal can be heard on channel 10 of campus televisions,
as well as via live online streaming. Click on the link in the upper left corner of the screen to tune in!
