Letterhead guidelines are necessary to ensure that the name of the University can be easily recognized, distinguishing Eastern Michigan University correspondence from that of other educational institutions. For internal use, these guidelines help ensure quick identification and save preparation time.

University letterhead items include letterhead, professional cards and envelopes. An example of EMU's letterhead is available below.

University Policy about Letterhead

University policy requires that any institutional letterhead be printed through University Publications to ensure accuracy and consistency in image, form and quality.

Letterhead is only permitted for officially recognized departments and organizations. Further, the format is required for all University units and their representatives. An example is available:

Letterhead Example.

The designs for letterhead items and professional cards reflect consistent themes in use of the University seal, signature, Swoop and colors.

Technical Guidelines Relating to Letterhead and Professional Cards

Letterhead and professional cards are to be printed in colors authorized by University Marketing or University Publications. Black and PMS 349 are policy unless otherwise authorized.

Letterhead is to be printed on standard 8.5 x 11-inch white bond paper, with matching #10 envelopes. Professional cards are to be printed on white cover-weight stock matching the letterhead color. Again, any variations must be approved by University Marketing. No other symbols or devices (including individual department logos or symbols) may appear on the letterhead without prior permission from the director of University Marketing or the director of University Publications
