    EMU's Department of African American Studies has made it possible for youth in the community to make presentations and observe national speakers in order to experience the arts and social perspective of today's African American. Robert Perry, director of EMU's African American Center for Applied Research and Services, enables students to collaborate with University staff in applied research projects and to participate in internships and volunteer programs that enrich their education and career potential.

  • Explore the importance of artists' inspirational role in African American social movements.
  • Meet leaders and alumni of African American organizations on campus.
  • Build your own Web site and create and deliver your own PowerPoint presentation.
  • Visit the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit.
