The Church of God in Christ Movement from 1907-1914

The presentation looks at the evolution of one of the largest religious denominations among African Americans today. The Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, founded in 1907 in Los Angeles was, at the outset, racially mixed both in its pastoral leadership and its congregants. Following the separation from the main body by white pastors in 1914, the Church of God in Christ began its evolution into the denomination it represents today. This presentation looks at this early phase of the church, the separation over Holiness and Pentecostal doctrines, and the racial split of the era.
