Evaluation of Epidermal Growth Factor Inhibitors

The Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) is a protein that is expressed on the outside surface of all mammalian cells. In numerous types of cancer, the number of EGFRs was found to increase dramatically. In this study, a sensitive, in vitro immunological method to measure EGFR is used to evaluate EGFR inhibitors for specific binding to cells containing high amounts of EGFR. EGFR inhibitors could provide clinically important EGFR-directed chemotherapeutics.
