Tendamistat-Based Peptide Inhibitors of Alpha-Amylase Containing Phenylalanine, Ornithine and Lysine

Successful inhibition of the ?-amylase enzyme would prove extremely useful in the treatment of diabetes. Smaller peptide analogs of the natural protein tendamistat were synthesized, substituting phenylalanine for tyrosine and lysine or ornithine for arginine in the critical segment. Finally, these peptides were analyzed for inhibitory activity in spectrophotometric assays.
