Development and Application of Contact Angle Surface Energy Measurements to Marine Fouling Release Coatings
Dynamic contact angle measurements and a set of developed methodologies are used to characterize the surface energy of model and commercial marine fouling release coatings. The empirical Zisman Critical Surface Tension method is used as a function of temperature to approximate the surface energy of these coatings and is compared to the results from the Girifalco-Good-Fowkes-Young method. The Owens-Wendt method is used to determine the relative polar and non-polar components of the calculated surface energy and the contact angle hysteresis is also determined.
