We want to take this opportunity to remind you of Eastern Michigan University’s commitment to an environment free from discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment and assault. The University’s sexual harassment and non-discrimination policies can be found here:
These policies define harassment and discrimination, and provide helpful examples.
If you have a question or concern about discrimination, sexual harassment or sexual assault on campus, please consult the University’s Title IX resource website at http://www.emich.edu/title-nine/ The page contains instructions for reporting your concerns. It also contains procedures for investigating complaints of discrimination, harassment or assault that are made against faculty, staff, or visitors. To view these procedures on the website, follow the link to “ Downloadable University Procedures”, and then click on, “Discrimination/Harassment Complaint Investigation Procedure For Complaints Against Faculty, Staff or Visitors .” Complaints against students fall within the Student Code of Conduct, which is also linked to the website.
The website also contains links to other resources, including posters from EMU alumnus and cartoonist David Coverly, as well as a video featuring many of our students announcing the University’s "Tell Someone" campaign.
In the coming weeks, you will hear more on campus about these resources and the University’s efforts to ensure a campus free from discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual assault. You may receive a separate mailing at your campus residence or meet a Title IX coordinator on campus. Also, in mid-March, you will receive an all-student survey asking questions regarding the campus environment with respect to sexual harassment and assault. We urge you to take the time to complete the survey.
Please familiarize yourself with these resources. All EMU personnel must understand the required reporting responsibilities and help to create an environment where all members of the EMU community feel welcome, valued, and able to work and learn in an environment free from discrimination.
