Mobile Devices - Overview

The EagleMail web client is the only fully-supported Division of IT email client. In most cases, the Division of IT provides settings only support for mobile clients such as iPhones, Window Mobile, Palm, and BlackBerry devices.

With that said, the information provided below is meant help you when setting up your mobile device to access your EagleMail account.

Note: Contact your mobile provider for assistance with backing up your mobile device data and setting up it up to access your EagleMail account. If your mobile provider is unable to assist you with setting up your mobile device to access your EagleMail account, visit the Help Desk window with your mobile device in-hand, (located in the Halle Library – Room 106) for limited mobile (setting only and basic steps) support.

There are three ways to access your EagleMail account from a mobile device:

A) Email only (IMAP/POP): allows you to to connect your mobile device to an EagleMail email messages and, in some cases, your email folders. See Mobile Device Settings for email only (IMAP/POP) settings.

The next two options allow you to connect to your EagleMail email, address book and/or calendar from your mobile device.

Note: Both options require a data plan that allows your mobile device to connect to the Internet. Before you start, please verify that your mobile contract includes the appropriate data plan.

B) Logging in from your mobile device browser: allows you to maintain separate mobile device and EagleMail email inboxes, address books and calendars. This same option provides access to your EagleMail account from your mobile device browser. See Logging In for more information.

C) Over-the-air (OTA): synchronizes your mobile device email, address book and/or calendar with your EagleMail account. Your mobile device and EagleMail data (contacts, and/or appointments) will be co-mingled. Any changes to this data will be reflected on your mobile device and in EagleMail. Once you determined if you are eligible (see Am I Eligible? for more information), follow the links listed below to set up OTA synchronization by operating system.

Note: Visit the Zimbra site for a list of compatible mobile devices.

Zimbra lists the following devices running Palm OS (Garnet) as being supported for over-the-air sync:  Treo 650, Treo 680, Treo 700p, Treo 750p, and Treo T/X.  However, in our experience, the over-the-air sync for email, calendar and contacts does not work consistently - often requiring either manual syncs or the accounts being deleted and re-setup from scratch.  For this reason, the Help Desk does not provide any level of support for Palm OS (Garnet) devices.
