Using public IM systems such as AIM, Google Talk, and Yahoo! to conduct business leaves univeristy-owned data vulnerable to theft. For this reason, the Help Desk does not support adding other IM accounts to Pidgin. Contact your IM Provider (e.g., AIM, Google Talk, MSN, and Yahoo!) for additional instruction and support when setting up Pidgin to connect to your public IM account.
Note: If you currently use the EMU GroupWise IM system, we recommend adding an account to it from Pidgin or Adium and to remove the GroupWise Messenger from your computer. See Removing GroupWise Messenger for more information.
You will then need to add each GroupWise buddy as an EagleChat buddy. Once you have verified your buddy is available via EagleChat, you can remove the GroupWise buddy. See Adding and Removing Buddies for more information.
The EMU GroupWise IM system is scheduled to be turned off on Monday, August 2, 2010.
