Removing GroupWise Messenger

Because Pidgin allows you to connect to multiple Instant Messaging (IM) systems, including Groupwise, you no longer need to use the GroupWise Messenger to communicate with other people who use Groupwise.

Note: You do not need to stop using the EMU GroupWise Instant Messaging system until we have transitioned everyone from GroupWise to EagleChat; however, we recommend adding an account to it from Pidgin or Adium. See Other IM Account Settings for more information.

Since we do not currently have a way to transfer/migrate your GroupWise buddy list, we recommend adding each GroupWise buddy as an EagleChat buddy. Once you have verified your buddy is available via EagleChat, you can remove the GroupWise buddy. See Working with Buddy Lists and Groups and Adding and Removing Buddies for more information on how to do this in Pidgin.

The EMU GroupWise IM system is scheduled to be turned off on Friday, August 20, 2010.
