Summer Incentive Program (SIP)
The Summer Incentive Program (SIP) provides at-risk high-school graduates an opportunity for academic success. To be admitted to SIP, students must be nominated by the Office of Admissions, Eastern Michigan University. (SIP does not accept students who have not been nominated by Admissions).
Upon nomination, the Admissions Office provides nominees with an application and supplemental forms. Upon completing the forms, students send them to the Coordinator, Pre-College Program at Holman Success Center for review.
Following a review, the Coordinator and Pre-College staff determine whether to grant an interview with the student and his/her parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
Following the interview, SIP staff either accepts or rejects the student for admission into the program. Once admitted, students are required to attend an orientation session and sign contracts agreeing to abide by the disciplinary and financial commitments of the program.
SIP students are required to live on campus for seven weeks during the summer semester (June-August). They are enrolled in three college courses and work on campus 6 hours per week.
Students who complete the program successfully with grades of “C” or better in each of their classes are admitted to EMU as full-time students for the upcoming fall semester
Benefits of the SIP Program include:
- The opportunity, upon successful completion of the program, to attend EMU as a full-time student.
- Individualized classroom instruction.
- SIP courses count toward your total required credit hours for graduation.
- The opportunity to interact with faculty, staff, and other students.
- Valuable work experience.
- The opportunity to acquire excellent study skills to assure future academic success
