  • International Students FAQs

    Expand dropdown
    • Am I required to have the EMU Insurance Policy? International students are required to have the EMU insurance plan while studying at EMU. This policy is an annual plan with a start date of September 1 and an end date of August 31 of each year. You will be on this annual plan even if you are not enrolled for summer semester, as long as you remain an Eastern student.
    • Can I purchase my own insurance policy and not be on the EMU insurance plan? You may be able to waive our policy if you have an acceptable/comparable annual insurance plan.  Eligible policies must fall under one of the two following categories: (1) Group Policy - Insurance coverage is provided by an employer or by a spouse or legal guardian through an employer. (2) Government Agency or International Organization Sponsored Plan - Insurance coverage is provided by a pre-approved government agency or International Organization. Download the Student Insurance Waiver Form [PDF]NOTE: The Washtenaw County Health Plan does NOT meet the waiver requirements.
    • What do I need to do to be on the EMU Insurance Policy? As long as you are enrolled at EMU and a waiver was not approved you will automatically be billed to your student account (Ebill) for Student Insurance by semester within the first two weeks of the semester. NOTE: Both winter and summer charges will be billed to your student account during the winter semester.
    • What benefits are included on the EMU Insurance Policy? For benefits information, visit the UnitedHealthcare Student Resources website.
