On this day in 1833 - Britain seized control of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. About 150 years later, Argentina seized the islands from the British, but Britain took them back after a 74-day war.

Fact:
Joy Adamson (January 20, 1910 - January 3, 1980) (born Friederike Victoria Gessner) was a naturalist, artist, and author best known for her book, Born Free, which describes her experiences raising a lion cub named Elsa. Born Free was printed in several languages, and made into an Academy Award-winning movie of the same name. On January 3, 1980, in Shaba National Reserve in Kenya, Adamson's body was discovered by her assistant, Peter Morson. After a police investigation, it was determined she had been murdered.
