Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, born July 18, 1918, is a South African anti-apartheid activist, revolutionary and politician who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. On August 5, 1962, police arrested Mandela and charged him with inciting workers to strike and leaving the country without permission. He spent 27 years in prison and released from Victor Verster Prison in Paarl on February 11, 1990. The event was broadcast live all over the world.
