In 2001 - NATO, for the first time, invoked a treaty clause that stated that an attack on one member is an attack on all members. The act was in response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States.

Fact:

Vernors ginger ale was created in Detroit and became the first soda pop made in the United States. In 1862, pharmacist James Vernor was trying to create a new beverage when he was called away to serve our country in the Civil War. When he returned, 4 years later, the drink he had stored in an oak case had acquired a delicious gingery flavor.

AGING STUDIES PROGRAM PRESENTS ANNUAL FALL LECTURE: The Aging Studies Program will present their annual fall lecture on Wednesday, October 9, 4 - 6 p.m., in ballroom B of the Student Center. This lecture will trace the evolution of approaches to dementia care as reflected in 1) changing philosophic orientations toward the care of elders with dementia and 2) scientific advancements in nursing and related fields over the past three decades. Major theories and models addressing care of individuals with dementia and management of associated behavioral issues will be reviewed with emphasis on the scientific evidence for them. Thoughts about emerging challenges and opportunities as they may affect the future of dementia care will also be offered. Presented by: Donna Algase, PhD, RN, Associate Dean of Research and Evaluation at the University of Toledo. The event is free. 2013 PSYCHODYNAMIC RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM TALK: Please join the Psychology Department for Wilma Bucci's lecture on "Multiple Levels of Interaction in Therapeutic Communication: Between Patient and Therapist and Within Each Patient" on Wednesday, October 23, 9:30 - 10:45 a.m., room G03, Halle Library. Bucci will examine the processes of communicating emotional experience between therapist and patient in the theoretical framework of multiple code theory, which includes sub-symbolic and symbolic verbal and nonverbal codes, and cover adaptive as well as maladaptive forms of dissociative processes. She will also discuss communication on multiple levels, including embodied communication as well as linguistic forms.
