As they approach graduation, senior neuroscience majors and presidential scholars Ravel Ray and Hind Al Khashali take satisfaction in having made significant contributions to the field of neuroscience through their participation in undergraduate research at EMU. Their research focuses on Alzheimer's Disease (AD). It provides insight into how anti-cancer treatments modify the risk for AD and assist in developing future therapeutic approaches for the prevention and treatment of both cancer and AD.
John W. Porter was the first Black president of EMU (1979-1989).
The first class to graduate from the Normal school included Helen Norris, John M.B. Sill, and Alizina Morton in 1854.
On March 28, 1849, the Michigan legislature passed Act No. 138 to establish a state normal school.
