* B.Side Basics Opportunities: Do you know any youth 13-21 years of age who are interested in starting up their own business, getting ready to look for a summer job or interested in learning to refurbish computers? We have a few more spaces left in two of our programs, and will close enrollment after this week.
Our first program is B.Side Basics, a 10-week program that runs every Saturday. In Basics, students are exposed to business, business plan development and job readiness skills. We are accepting youth ages 13-21 who are interested in business and possibly starting their own business. Open enrollment for Basics closes Saturday, March 2. Our second program is Digital Inclusion, an after-school class geared towards high school students that runs every Monday and Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Students learn computer refurbishment and technical training program and work on both PC and Macs. There is space for four more students to start Thursday, Feb. 28. Both programs are held in Rackham on Eastern Michigan University's Campus. DANCE TEAM TRYOUTS: The EMU dance team will hold tryouts for the 2013-14 season, Sunday, March 24, in the second floor aerobic studio in the Rec/IM building. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. First cuts take place from 10 a.m. to noon, and second cuts run 1-3 p.m. Cost is $10. PLANETARIUM FEATURES THE MOVIE "STARS": The EMU planetarium will feature the movie "Stars," Friday, March 15, Friday, April 12 and Friday, April 26, at 7 p.m., in the Mark Jefferson Science Complex. "Stars," narrated by actor Mark Hamill, is the Sudekum Planetarium's first original full-dome, digital production. Adventure Science Center collaborated with the National Space Centre in Leicester, England, to create this stunning 26-minute show exploring the powerhouses of the universe and our relationship with the night sky throughout history. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online at EMU Tickets. For more on the movie, go to Stars Movie. Recommended age for the movie is 13 years and older. Following the movie, participates will get to enjoy a live demonstration of the current night sky locally. Space is limited. ART GALLERY EXHIBIT RECEPTION: All are welcome to attend a reception on Wednesday, March 20, 4 - 7 p.m., in the EMU University Gallery to celebrate the opening of the exhibit "Subverting Modernism: Cass Corridor Revisited 1966-1980." BEST BUDDIES MICHIGAN FRIENDSHIP WALK: Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan Best Buddies programs will team up to spread awareness about disabilities by hosting a friendship 1-mile walk, Sunday, March 24, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gallup Park, 3000 Fuller Road in Ann Arbor Charter Township. $15 per registrant by March 20, $20 on day of walk. All proceeds go toward EMU and U-M Best Buddies programs.
