YPSILANTI —A Chinese Spring Festival Gala will kick off Eastern Michigan University’s celebration of Chinese Week, Feb. 7-14.
The Gala, scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 7, will feature cultural displays, games, buffet dinner, performance, raffle and dance. The event is 4-9:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at all EMU ticket offices or online at emutix.com. For information, call 487-2282.
“As a university committed to world understanding, we are excited to support Chinese Week and to learn from this important cultural event," said Jack Kay, provost and executive vice president of academic affairs.
The Gala begins a week-long celebration that will include special exhibits at Halle Library, panel discussions and several films.
The schedule of events: (NOTE: All events are free unless otherwise indicated.)
Feb. 8 – Panel discussion “Women in the 21st Century,” 1-3 p.m., 300 Halle Library.
Feb. 9 – Seminar “Chinese Etiquette: Dealing with Chinese from a Social Context,” 1-3 p.m., Room 300, Halle Library.
Feb. 10 – Panel discussion “Living in China: A Kaleidoscopic World,” 1-3 p.m., 300 Halle Library. The Chinese film “Getting Home” will be shown 7-9:30 p.m., 300 Halle Library.
Feb. 12 – Presentation: “Success in the Changing World – the Eastern and Western Way,” 10:15-11 a.m., Student Center Auditorium. There will be a panel discussion, “Doing Business in China,” 11-11:45 a.m., Student Center Auditorium.
Presentation: “Climbing the Great Wall,” 1-2 p.m., 300 Halle Library. Chinese flim and discussion: “Please Vote for Me,” 2-4 p.m., 300 Halle Library.
