YPSILANTI - Changing a generation one idea, one business at a time.  Can you help us help young people transform themselves and our community?

Eastern Michigan University’s entrepreneurial training program, The B. Side: The Business Side of Youth, is launching a Donor Campaign for the B. Side of A.: Business Side of Arts summer program. Funds are urgently needed to make the arts and entrepreneurial B. Side of A. program possible. The B. Side is in need of $50,000, which will directly impact the lives of 60 local youth and 12 local artisans.

The B. Side of A. summer program trains local youth on basic entrepreneurial skills, as well as instruction in specific artistic disciplines. Skills such as journalism, web design and video production will be taught by local professionals. The program is housed at Eastern Michigan University’s College of Business and is centered on broadening the skill sets of the participating youth, with the end goal of creating viable youth-owned enterprises.

Last summer 60 youth participated in The B. Side of A. Over 20 local businesses and organizations served as internship hosts; during these internships more than 3,000 hours of assistance was given to the local businesses who served as hosts. The youths received more than 6,000 hours of artistic and entrepreneurial skills training. Integral to the program's core mission is to provide youth with the necessary tools to not only be a successful entrepreneur, but to be successful in life by teaching the value of accountability and the importance of personal initiative.

Those interested in donating a tax-deductible financial gift to The B. Side may do so through the organization’s website. The website’s Donate Now button routes donors to the EMU Foundation donor page; directions for donating through the EMU Foundation are listed under the Donate Now button. All proceeds will go directly to The B. Side of A. summer program. Thank you!
