YPSILANTI - Eastern Michigan University has opened contract negotiations with the EMU-American Association of University Professors (faculty union) and the Professional/Technical Union (UAW 1976).
“It is my hope that this summer’s negotiations with the AAUP and the union representing professional/technical employees will be concluded successfully and with mutually beneficial agreements,” said Susan Martin, president of Eastern Michigan University.
Martin hosted separate social events at the University House for each bargaining team. The AAUP barbecue was May 13, The PT event was May 17.
The current contract for the EMU-AAUP expires Sept. 1, 2010. The current contract for the PT union expires Aug. 31, 2010.
The American Association for University Professors represents approximately 671 members at EMU. UAW 1976 represents approximately 400 members at Eastern Michigan.
The negotiating team for the EMU-AAUP includes: Donna Selman (chief negotiator), sociology, anthropology, and criminology; Charles Cunningham, English; Suzanne Grey, library; Bob Jones, geography and geology; Linda Kinczkowski, school of technology studies; and Susan Moeller, accounting and finance.
The negotiating team for the University includes: Byron Bond, dean, Extended Programs and Educational Outreach; Morell Boone, dean, College of Technology; Deb deLaski-Smith, dean, graduate school; Marianne Laporte, department head, biology; Russ Larson, assistant vice president, academic human resources; David Trakul, director, employee relations and policy; and Dave Woike, department head, music and dance.
The bargaining team for the professional/technical union includes Patric Daugherty, division of information technology; David Wilcox, student business services; William Heilman, information technology; Arnold Barr, information technology; Eric Ward, health education and John Uram, UAW International Representative.
EMU's bargaining team for the PT contract negotiations includes: Douglas Bunce, human resources; Aida Beard, custodial services; Cynthia Van Pelt, financial Aid; Elaine Logan, University librarian; Jason Broge, University budget; Rocky Jenkins, information technology; and David Trakul, employee relations and policy.
The scheduled sessions for negotiations for the PT union include: July 13, 16, 20, 22, 27 and 30. No dates have been set for the faculty negotiations.
Bargaining with the EMU-AAUP began May 17. The two teams will meet every Monday and Wednesday, with several exceptions.
