For the 2010 winter semester, Eastern Michigan University's 21 sports teams recorded the best overall one-term GPA in school history at 3.066. The previous top term GPA was a 3.059 turned in during the 2005 fall semester.
The latest grade report for the EMU's Athletics Department was released June 8.
"Our student-athletes continue to amaze me with their outstanding efforts — not only in athletic competition, but also in the classroom," said EMU Athletics Director Derrick Gragg. "We are very proud of the student-athletes' work and the tremendous support our Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) supply behind the scenes. It takes an unbelievable amount of time from both our student-athletes and SASS program to keep improving our academic success and we will continue to support our student-athletes as they move forward to the ultimate goal of graduating."
"Our office is thrilled that our student-athletes have turned in such a great effort in their academic work," said Erin Burdis, EMU's director of SASS. "Obviously, our staff and student-athletes take pride in academic success and this latest report proves that the hard work is paying off."
The EMU baseball team led all men's teams in winter 2010 with a 3.284 GPA while the best women's GPA was turned in by the women's golf team at 3.599.
There were 28 student-athletes that posted 4.0 GPAs during winter 2010 while 302, or 60.4 percent, had GPAs of 3.0 or better.
