The tentative agreement for a two-year contact between Eastern Michigan University and the EMU Chapter of the American Association of University Professors has been ratified in a vote by Eastern's faculty. The vote was 265 to 18.
The tentative agreement was reached Aug. 31. The ratification vote was Monday, Sept. 13.
"I appreciate all the hard work by the EMU bargaining team, and the many others who assisted with this contract negotiation," said Jack Kay, provost and executive vice president. "I also thank the AAUP bargaining team and the faculty for their dedication."
The new agreement includes a 1 percent salary increase effective Sept. 1, 2010, and a 2 percent increase, effective Sept. 1, 2011. It also includes increases in faculty contributions to health care coverage. A one-time adjustment to base salary of $1,000, effective January 2011, was made to help offset the increases, which take effect at that time.
The Regents are scheduled to vote on the contract at their regular meeting next Tuesday, Sept. 21.
